Who is Jamaal Charles

NFL Running Back

Like many great athletes, Jamaal Charles began his high school career as a multi-sport athlete, excelling in both track and football. By the time he was a senior he had won the Texas 5a State Championship in 110m and 300m hurdles. He brought that speed to the football field and amassed 2,056 rushing yards and 25 touchdowns his senior year earning him First Team All-State, Houston Chronicle offensive MVP, Parade All-America Football Team and was player of the year (his junior and senior years) for his district. He also received the Willie Ray Smith Award two times, which is awarded to the southeast Texas offensive MVP.

Jamaal's high school career made him a highly sought after recruit. He ultimately selected Texas as his college of choice. In his Freshman year, he helped drive the team to a National Championship with 878 yards and 11 touchdowns. By the time he was a junior, he opted to no longer participate in track and to focus solely on football. The decision paid off... he rushed for 290 yards in one game, earning him a spot in the Texas Longhorns record book.

In 2008, Jamaal chose to forgo is senior year and enter the NFL draft. He was picked up in the 3rd round the by Kansas City Chiefs, where in his rookie year he averaged 5.3 yards per carry. In the following years, Jamaal became the only player in NFL history to rush for 1,100 or more yards in 200 or fewer carries.

In the 2009 season he caught 40 balls, ran over 1,000 yards and averaged 6.1 yards per carry. Jamaal is the only NFL running back to amass those numbers in a season.

In 2010-11 season, Jamaal played in the Pro Bowl and was selected as a member of the All-Pro team. At the start of the 2011 season, Jamaal suffered a season-ending injury when he tore his ACL. Jamaal worked hard to get ready for opening day in 2012-13 season and was one of the few positives for the Kansas City Chiefs. He rushed for over 1,500 yards this year, scored 6 touchdowns and amassed 35 receptions. And he has yet shown signs of any decline by earning 3 trips to the Pro Bowl in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
